University of Toronto Certificate in Applied Project Management
World Class Productivity (WCP) together with the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies, is offering an all new Certificate in Applied Project Management.
The Certificate in Applied Project Management is made up of eight carefully selected and integrated courses designed to take participants efficiently through three key learning stages:
- Foundations level
- Preparing for writing and passing the PMP® Exam
- The acquisition of specific skills necessary to tackle larger more complex projects
Upon completion of the curriculum, participants will have both the hands-on tools to handle the kind of situations project managers face in the “real world”, as well as a university level certificate in project management to set them apart from the competition. The Ontario Architect Association (OAA) also accepts all courses as CORE learning hours towards meeting ongoing continuing education requirements.
Certificate courses1:
1 Courses may also be taken “stand alone” by participants who are not yet ready to commit to the entire certificate.
2 Participants, who already meet the PMI® (Project Management Institute) experience requirements for becoming a PMP®, are encouraged to take the PMP Exam Prep course early in the cycle.
3 Participants who have obtained their PMP® designation prior to September 4th 2010 are exempt from having to take the 3-day PMP® Exam Prep course
Certificate Requirements
- The successful completion of all eight required courses.
- Students have three years from the start date of their first course to complete the certificate, however extensions will be granted to students requiring additional time due to Certificate changes.
- After taking Project Management Essentials Part 1, participants may take the remaining courses which make up the certificate in any order they choose.
- Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) exemption may be granted for a maximum of one course.
This certificate is recommended to participants who:
- Need specific project management skills such as:
- Techniques for scheduling and managing multiple projects which share a common resource pool
- How to use Microsoft Project effectively when planning and managing their projects
- How to make sure functional and user requirements are properly defined and understood in order to ensure that project results are aligned with the business needs
- How to manage the expectations of a large number of diverse project stakeholders
- Are currently involved in projects and want to obtain the credentials and knowledge required for career advancement and to take on larger more complex projects
- Will be able to meet the experience requirements necessary to write the PMP® exam
Participants completing this certificate will:
- Understand the essential tools of project management for initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling and closing out projects both large and small.
- Be prepared to write the PMP® Exam
- Learn how to apply advanced scheduling techniques for scheduling of multiple projects which share resources
- Understand how to identify both high level and detailed project requirements in order to ensure that project results are aligned with business needs
- Use Microsoft Project effectively during both the planning and managing of projects
- Learn how to hone their “people and leadership skills” in order to achieve a higher degree of project success
- Learn how to avoid serious problems by effectively managing the expectations of project stakeholders
